I beg to differ Leon:
I had a cable snap a couple days ago and took your letter with me to do the
replacement. I fiddled and farted around trying to get the bolt out that the
pedals pivot on but I couldn't get it to move after I got the nut off. This
was
fortunate because I put the clip assembly back on the clutch pedal and
noticed that someone had previously bent the slotted clip guide out of the
way.
I think this may have allowed the clip to cock up a bit and may have led to
premature cable failure; it broke right at the pedal end. I read the PSA
manual a few times before it somewhat became clear.
But to remove the cable you push up on the metal clip.. the cable end pops
out.
Peel back the rubber around the cable inside the engine compartment, pull the
cable housing out of the dash.
Turn the firewall sealing rubber inside out on the new cable assembly.
Push the inner cable into the hole in the fire wall.. mine went snap and
the end
locked into the plastic dohickie by the metal clip automatically. It seems
that the
guide positions the plastic clip on the pedal so that the new cable goes
right into it
To reinstall the housing into the firewall/pedal assy the expander collar
on the pedal
end of the cable housing must be a notch in so the teeth that lock the end
of the housing
into the pedal assembly are retracted. After you gently get these teeth
into their
hole a good shove on the cable housing shoves the expander piece into the
teeth
and they lock the works into the pedal assy.
