Distributor for XN6 (XN1?)

G'day,
Spent an active saturday in Toronto (ON, Can) trying to pin down the
difficulties that I've been suffering from. Dad's had a fair bit more
experience over the years than I've had. I've detailed, on the list,
most of the difficulties that have cropped up (relating to this matter)
over the last little while. The stuttering and stumbling that I've been
referring to is, more specifically, a misfire that seems to clear itself
above ~3000rpm.
The current view, not one that I particularly wish to subscribe to it,
is that there is a leak between two cylinders (probably #s 1&2) that is
(at low rpm) preventing a clean firing by disrupting the incoming charge
of air in the neighbouring cylinder.
Theory #2, I like this one much better ;), is that the magnetic pick-up
in the distributor is not behaving properly because of an excess of play
on the distributor shaft.
I'd like to explore theory #2 a bit more, but I can't find - so far - a
distributor to replace the one that I've got. Was that distributor used
in any other cars? Preferably one that was a bit thicker on the ground.
Is there a part no. that I might have luck discovering - I'm reading:
525213AL4 and V118E from the distributor itself. The dealer has just
quoted me 587.82$ CDN for the part, so I didn't order one of those up...
Many thanks,
Tim Cropley

'85 505 STI w/ ~177,000+ KMs and a sticky @#$%^&* odometer. Well, either
that or I'm getting lousy mileage and time is passing very slowly.....
