What kind of humidity and temp? A 20w50 should be just fine for an
average 105 farenheit 90% humidity on a daily basis. That's how hot
it's been recently around here...

What compression are you getting? Is it very close on all
cylinders? Could be a problem with a ring or a valve guide
and that would not nescessarily show in the exhaust, more
particularly if your car is equipped with a catalytic
converter and the exhaust was checked after it and not
before.
