Ford, PSA Peugeot Citroen in communications deal
PARIS, Sept 27 (Reuters) - Ford Motor Co. <F.N>
said late Wednesday that it has formed an alliance with French automaker PSA
Peugeot Citroen <PEUP.PA> to cooperate in Europe in the emerging field of
automotive telecommunications.
The alliance will include automotive design and engineering of "telematics",
as in-car communications are often called, and the development of services
and mobile technology.
The companies said they planned to complete a cooperative agreement by the
end of the year, and are open to other companies joining the alliance.
Ford Chief Executive Officer Jac Nasser told reporters at a Wednesday dinner
kicking off the Paris auto show that though the telematics deal is yet
another area of cooperation between Ford and PSA Peugeot Citroen, there have
been no discussions about the giant American automaker taking over its French
competitor.
