This does put some perspective on things.
I'm surprised that some 505 Turbo owners didn't realise that its
engine originated in the 1969 Simca-Chrysler 160/180. It seems to be
a pretty good 'un, considering its very humble (and ancient) origin.
As for why Peugeot chose the Simca-Chrysler engine over its in-house
(with Renault) Douvrin 2 Litre unit when creating the 505 Turbo in
1982, I don't know. Renault used the 2 L Douvrin OHC engine in the
much faster 21 (Medallion) Turbo, with very good results.
I used the older (1998 - free) version of CarTest a few weeks back on
the 404 sedan KF2 and Coupé KF2. One challenge was establishing a
representative Cd for the cars, which was arrived at after some
iteration. It gave results that were AMAZINGLY close to the actual
contemporary test figures I've got for these cars. There would
appear to be some quite successful modeling in that program.
On the other hand, though my 405 DL is definitely faster than the
404C, I know which one I'd rather be driving. I guess there is more
