that one was my fault. I, like an idiot, inserted my "modified" '89 turbo's
key into Joe's normal ignition switch -- sorry about that :-)

Yup, I too had to perform the key modification to the '88 Turbo. Same
thing--key would go in, but not all the way. I worry that the key is
kind of fragile now, so if you perform the modification, be gentle to
the key from now on.
