I recently took a day trip up to Austin to meet Pat Whale, Radu, and others
    for the Waco Citroen meet.

On the way up there in my loaner Nissan Altura I pretty much averaged
85-95Mph. I felt very comfortable and in control at that speed. In my 505STI
V6 80mph seems to be the speed that I am comfortable with on highways. On my
Land Rover Discovery 70Mph to 75Mph is what I am comfortable with.

When I had my 505 V6 up over 100mph a while back it "felt fast". Strangely
enough when I test drove an automatic 505 Turbo the speed crept up on me and
I was shocked to find that I was over 80mph on a freeway feeder road.

In a nutshell I believe like most others here that there is a time and place
for speed. That desert highway may be a safe place to speed, but if you end
up blowing out a tire in the middle of nowhere then how safe is that?

I feel that some cars tend to modify ones perception of speed as illustrated
above. If you feel like your going way to fast to react then you probably
are. Most of us drive at the speed we feel comfortable at. This is known as
the 85th percentile. For more info on speed check out this website.

P.S. I rode in a Citroen SM from Austin to Waco. Absolutely wonderful
experience. The unmistakable roar of an Italian motor has got to be one of
the most beautiful sounds in the world. And the class and style that the
French bring to a GT car is also unmistakable. Needless to say the car won
