The cheapest car I ever owned was a 1963 404 sedan, that cost me $250
CDN in 1985 - I drove it for about 140,000 km, spent about $1000 on
parts (mostly unnecessary, strictly speaking) and it averaged 28 MPG.

The next best was a 1984 Renault 5 TL I bought in 1990 for $2500 CDN -
it only had 27,000 km when I got it. Drove it to 150,000+ then sold
