Let me preface this by first agreeing with Mike T... AmsOil's marketing technique has never really appealed to me. At first glance it smacks of a multi-level marketing scheme ala' Amway or Shaklee. However, this is not the case. I suppose that because their products are so ridiculously expensive, it could never be effectively sold in a retail store.. So maybe their "in the know" distributorships are the ticket.. Who knows, marketing was never my bag.
I guess I'll drop a few names here & note I'm either acquainted with or know folks in their organization... Felix Sabates & Kyle Petty, both huge fans. All of the cars in the Sabco stable run AmsOil. Panoz. Friend of mine test drives for them. Their Lemans type cars use it. EFR (Elliot Forbes-Robinson), the Corvette C5R he drove at the '99 Rolex 24hrs used it. Jeff Zwart & the 911 twin turbo that owned Pike's Peak. Freddy Smith, winningest Super Late Model (dirt oval) driver in history, 10,000 rpms, 1100+ horsepower. Paul Genelossi used to use it in his Vette, I'm assuming he still does.
Just some of the cars that I personally know of. No, all of them are not world class, or the best in their field, but a few are. Go to any really big SCCA road racing event & take the time walk around the paddock & check the stickers on the cars. Quite a few red, white & blue AmsOil ones will be found. They don't pay any contingency money either.. these racers are in love with the oil they use.
There are lots more obscure Lubricants out there too... Ever heard of Royal Purple racing oil? I'd bet half of the Winston cup & Busch teams use it during qualifying. The stuff costs $25 a QUART! They can't make it fast enough. Most carguys know about Redline products, but who here has heard of Swepco gear oil? It knocks Redline's MTL's dick in the dirt so to speak.
What i'm trying to say, I guess, is that there is soooo much more to it than appears on the surface. Don't knock it till ya tried it.
