I've managed to hit 10,000 RPM briefly a couple times in my '88 Turbo.
Namely, the shifter was worn and I power-shifted to 2nd instead of 4th. The
first time I did that I took out my alternator.

      Group et al.,

I know that my 16V motor will rev up to 8500 no problem and if I were to
swap to a solid lifter setup, I could easily rev up to 10,000rpm. I guess
that it's possible in any car depending on how it's setup.
