Several years ago I took our Olds Custom Cruiser Diesel Wagon to my
real good tire shop where they also do mechanical repairs. I had a
rebuilt water pump and gave it to them to install. They looked a the
pump and showed me where the impeller was cast out of round. So I
told them to provide the pump and change it. They put on an Airtex
pump. Early on we had problems with that diesel heating. So I
yanked the radiator and installed another one with a 4 row core
instead of a 3 row core. We had decent operation, but the engine
would still reach 3/4 plus on hot heavy pulls. After the Airtex was
put on, the engine never went above 1/2 gauge! The impeller design
was outstanding. I think a pump with a similar designed impeller was
available for the XD3T. The secret is a cast bronze impeller that
moves much more volume at a higher pressure. Does anyone know where
we can get these pumps now? Bill
