My '85 505 TD wagon has developed a mild steering shimmy even at slow
speeds with no brake application. The front rotors are brand new. The
car seems to drift a little, and on sharp turns if a front tire hits a
mild bump, pothole or even a chunky piece of gravel, car briefly feels
like its losing steering. Where should I start looking first?

What is the proper method for checking wear on:

    1) ball joints
    2) inner tierod
    3) outer tierod
    4) rack and pinion ?

    thanks
