    How is the coolant level. Intermittent heat is a classic sign of low
    coolant. If it is a turbo, a cracked head can introduce enough combustion
    gas into the coolant to interrupt flow to the heater. Do you notice
    periodic gurgling sounds from the vicinity of the core and hoses?
