Remove the caps from the radiator and coolant expansion tank. Remove
the drain screw from the bottom of the radiator tank -OR- disconnect
the lower radiator hose from the radiator. Either can get messy...
There is a drain bolt located on the RH side of the engine block
(near turbocharger)--this drains the cooling jacket. A lot of people
don't bother with this because it is difficult to access the bolt
without the help of a hoist.
Reattach all the hoses/drain plugs then remove the 60C thermocontact
from the thermostat housing--there are several sensors on that
housing--the 60C thermcontact is one of the 3 on the side that faces
towards the front of the car, it is all the way to the right (as you
face it) and has 2 wires attaches to it.
**You must remove this thermocontact in order to preserve the life of
your cylinder head** It allows air to bleed out of the system as you
refill it.
Proceed with refilling the cooling system through the radiator with a
50/50 mix of phosphate-free coolant and distilled water (preferably).
Once coolant starts to run out of the 60C thermocontact hole,
reinstall the thermocontact then continue filling the radiator until
full.
Start the engine and place the heater control all the way up--keep
the blower off though. Allow the engine to reach operating temp (fan
cycles twice). Reverify the coolant level in the radiator, then fill
the coolant expansion tank to the "MAXI" line...
I believe the system takes around 2.5 gallons of coolant.
