I know everybody has been on pins and needles and chewing their nails
since I asked about the availability of Peugeot manual mandated "Blocfor"
washers just last week. I, myself, haven't slept well since then.
Last week I made a personal inspection tour of Western Hemispheres in
Santa Cruz, CA to see if I could get to the bottom of the "Blocfor" question
once and for all. Jacques helped me and we did run across a tiny bag of 12mm
"Blocfors." I needed 10mm ones and didn't buy them. Depressed, but not
defeated, I went to a very good Italian place on Seabright in Santa Cruz
called "Al Dente" for a glass of Italian wine and an excellent sausage
rigatoni. As I suspected, no one in the restaurant, or at Brady's, the bar
next door, knew anything about "Blocfor" washers either.
The next day, in Berkeley, I headed to my usual last resort, Bowlin
Equipment, a fastener specialty shop, on 10th Street. I showed them my
sample, which looked a lot like a 3/8 star washer that they stock. Their 3/8
fit over the sample bolt's threaded area, but it didn't fit over the
remaining part of the shank. The clerk went in back and returned with a
metric washer designed for, what he referred to, use with "socket head cap
screws." He informed me that the washer was also called a "rib washer."
The washer, being metric, fit perfectly, is compact, just like those
"Blocfors" and looks quite elegant. I bought bags of 10 and 12mm washers
which I plan to press into service this week.
For all I know the rest of you guys/gals out on the list are sitting on
big bags of "Blocfor's," but if you aren't, and are too shy to voice your
washer needs, I suggest that you contact Bowlin for some of these "Blocfor"
alternatives. They are made by a company in Germany called Adolph Schnorr.
    Bowlin's telephone number is (510) 527-8282 and their FAX is (510) 527-8383.
    They don't have e-mail.
Aside from these washers, the family who runs Bowlin is great and they
stock. or can find, about every weird fastener, tap, die. etc., known to man
    or beast.
