Help!
My 405 has developed a strange problem. When I steer
left there is a loud screeching noise. The noise is
loudest when the car is moving slowly (and the engine
is cold) but still exists when the car is moving at
speed (and is completly warmed up).
The noise never occurs when steering straight or
right, only when steering left. On occasions the noise
even exists when the car is stationary (with the
wheels pointing to the left).
Baffled yet?! The noise is also loudest from inside
the car and seems to be affected by the speed of the
booster fan! With the fans set to the off position the
screeching is very loud and if I turn up the fan to
the '1' bar position, or higher, the noise still
exists but changes in tone.
Has anyone else come across a similar problem to this?
Could the cause be located at the booster fan or is it
more likely to be a component of the steering (I've
had the belts checked and all is apparently ok). Do
the booster fans still spin when they are set to the
lowest position (the slider can be set to 0, 1, 2 or 3
bars)?
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
