I have the opportunity to get some new OE Jaguar XJ8/XJR headlamps
for cheap (146mm). If you have not seen them, they are made by Valeo,
have clear glass lenses, have an e2 (French approval) stamp on the
glass, and require H1 lamps (both low and high beam units). They also
have a DOT stamp, which worries me...

The high beam units (inboard) house a city light--this is unusual
because *most* European lights have the city light in the low beam
unit (outboard). This creates a cool effect--the inboard high beam
lamps are lit dimly by a small incadescent bulb while the low beams
are on. It looks really neat on the Jags as well as some newer BMWs.

Since I cannot install normal 505 E-code lights in my '82 without
performing some modifications, I have considered installing these
Jaguar Valeo units--I think they would look great and certainly would
light the road better than my DOT pieces.

However, I would also like to try some Cibie Z-beams, but I cannot
find any sources. I would need (4) 146mm headlamps (high/low and high
per side, I suppose). Does Cibie still make the "Z-beam", or are they
just into pure E-code stuff now?

On a related note, does anyone know what is required to fit the 505
H4/H1 (biode?) headlamps into a US spec '84-later 505? These cars
readily accept the H4-only E-code lights, but I heard the H4/H1 units
fit totally differently. Is this true?

    Thanks
