Are you still down there in the smog? Must be shorting
your circuits: Venturi, yeah. About as obscure as the
aforementioned Murena and Bagheera. The two of you
may as well be longing for Bugatti. Sad that the
French don't do sports cars anymore? Did they ever...
except as the grossly overpriced playthings of the
obscenely wealthy? The British did ACCESSIBLE
sportscars. Obtainable, affordable sportscars. But
their motor industry imploded, and all that is
history, now. But the FRENCH? Talbot Lago, Voisin,
Delage, Hotchkiss, Salmson... all great, all gone. And
few affordable, then or now, in their sporting
versions. What's your frame of reference, post-war?
Panhard Junior, or Panhard-based D-B? Not
Americanesque Simca, surely? Fopish fatty Facel?
Renault Caravelle? Lotus Europa sometimes had a
Renault engine... but it was a Brit car. The Alpine,
for the thick-of-wallet? The Fuego? hmmmm...
Yeah, it's sad.. but it's not new. And edgy, sexy,
weird Citroen absorbed delightfully wacky Panhard, only
to find itself absorbed by our boring, beloved
Peugeot.
We don't miss what we never had.
