     Hello Mike !

Matra is a tragedy on its own - at least all we Simca-, Talbot- and
Matra-drivers can say a big "thank you" to Chrysler to suck out their
European organisation to survive theirselves. The surrending of Simca is a
trend beginning with Chrysler´s appear on the European market. A lot of
Simca-dealers were very engaged and made Simca to the greatest car-producer
in Europe in the 70´s ! The "gift" of Chrysler was to lower the quality,
nobody over here had a pardon for a Chrysler Horizon ( Dodge Omnia ) beeing
rusty after 2-3 years, nobody accepted several waits at the garage because
some dealers were not able to find simple vacuum-probs at the Bagheera. They
never understood the way that VW made successful - to sale the same technic
under different names but also at different dealers ! Every dealer who sold
"enough" cars automaticly got a Matra-dealer and often these dealer had not
the experience in repairing the car. Although the first owners of a Bagheera
or Murena were mostly guys with a good monthly income the cars went in hands
of pseudo-mechanics that made the car worse but not running. Especially at
the Murena, know guys who spent thousands of bucks every year on their
cars - but they never stopped the problems ! It´ll be a long discussion
about the reasons why french sports-cars have sometimes a bad reputy or no
greater lobby but at least all producers today have the problem to posite
their Coupes on the market. Renember the> VW Corrado ( they hauled back a
lot of US-versions and sold them for peanuts over here in Germany ), think
about the Vauxhaul/Opel Calibra or the Tigra ( both were flops over here ),
what´s with the 406 Coupe ( from all sides called the nicest Coupe ever
build now - and Peugeot considers to end the producition cause of tough
sale ). Times seem to be gone for cars like a Matra Murena containing a
today uncalculatable financial risk. At least - we all have to ask US how we
imagine a sports-car of today. Is it really the High-Tech-car with
navigation-system, servo-steering, ABS and much more of this nonsens like
they try to make us believe ? My 1,6-Murena steals every Porsche or Ferrari
its show - although I´m just not able to gear from the steering-wheel :-)
