How many jap engines from the early 80s will do 300,000 km + on a 2l 4 cyl? Ditto for the trans? And survive running entirely out of water because of a burst hose when it was being borrowed? or same mileage and then tow a overloaded trailer - total rolling weight 5000 kg +?
I do agree that it wouldn't be too hard for the electricals to be more reliable, however it seems to often be bad connections rather than faulty components.
Not sure about the build quality on the jap stuff...
