Have to a agree with Bernie. While every manufacturer has its dogs
and lemons, Toyota and Hondas have very few of them. From what I've
read, and the survey data suggests, a Honda Accord, for example, will
basically go about 170,000 to 200,000 miles without anything much
going wrong. My wife's Honda Civic has gone 97,000 miles without
anything going wrong. A friend's Accord went 165,000 miles and the
only thing that needed replacement outside regular maintenance items
    was the power antenna.

In contrast, a VW Jetta turbo diesel that I had needed new shocks, a
new turbo, new CVs, two new clutches, a new alternator, and a new
transmission before 90,000 miles. My 505 STX that I purchased with
100,000 miles and gave a way to charity at 160,000 miles had $13,000
spent on it in repairs in the time that I owned it and would go about
3,000 to 5,000 miles between breakdowns or something going wrong.
The reliability, durability and build quality of the Jetta, Golf, 206
and 307 is well below average. You can't say that about any Honda or
Toyota. In the UK, the Japanese products consistently rate at the
top of virtually all owner satisfaction surveys and reliability
surveys while French cars consistently rate close to bottom. Only
    Fiat and Alfa do worse.

to be OK at 34,000 miles.
