This edict from PSA to its suppliers doesn't surprise me. Folz and
the chap who heads the Peugeot division have often made public
statements about the inferior product coming from suppliers. I
remember Folz saying that it was hard to convince suppliers of
electronics that the parts had to more durable than those in a cell
phone. The 307 is particularly problematic; the supplier of the turn
signal lever seems to be incapable of coming up with a design that
works; the electronic control unit has numerous software bugs and
reboots itself (which results in the headlights turning themselves
off if they are on - not good at night - and the electronics shutting
down)
My own experience with the parts for my 505 left me less than
impressed. If memory serves, two of the three new Valeo alternators
I installed in my car were faulty.
The quality of the 406 and 607 seem to be quite good by Peugeot
standards, although I've read some horror stories about both. There
seems to be too many instances of (a) Peugeot replacing new cars
because neither the dealer nor the company can not figure out what is
wrong with the cars being replaced, and (b) major engine failures at
low mileages. See Peugeot at www.carsurvey.org
Peugeot won't be back in the US by 2007.
