....I totally disagree about the statement "front wheel drive is the
    future".

It has been proven the superior concept for smaller cars e.g. up to the
    306/307 series.

With bigger cars, especially the 6xx series, I think it was a big mistake
for Peugeot to give up the rear wheel drive. Big RWD cars have substantial
advantages regarding the traction, as the weight load is moving towards
the driven wheels when accelerating, also there are no power influences in
the steering, last point is that there is more space for an easy mounting
of the engine, transmission, thus RWD cars are normally more rugged and
easier to repair in case of technical problems. A lot of modern big sedans
on the market are either RWD, or if they are based on FWD, are available
with AWD to overcome the problems of FWD.

As for me, I must admit that RWD was one of the must-haves when I chose
the 604, although of course I would be happy with FWD in much smaller cars
such as a 204 or 304. On the other hand, I do have seen a 204's cramped
FWD engine compartment and it fills one with fear. :-)

    regards
    Thomas
