There are 2 shredders within 20 mi of me here in Winnipeg
Anything I drag in is worth $65 Cdn per ton.
Many independent tow truck operators will drag away cars for free
    around here.

Without these shredders I don't know what would happen.
I would look for scrap dealers they may accept a shell
The problem with cars is "fluff" that is all the rugs and upholstery and glass
and rubber ...ie all the stuff that is totally useless.

There is so much of this fluff that one shredder is making it all into fence posts and
    parking lot curbs.

Minneapolis is 450 mi South of here and there is a steady flow of flatbed semis
loaded with squashed cars coming from the wreckers there.
I assume that these trucks would be deadheading back here for more 2 X 4's
if it weren't for the cars. But it probably makes Minneaplois a way different market
    for getting rid of wrecks.

There have been a few times where I've been tempted to buy a car "cheap" for
parts. However, I what I don't know is what to do with the shell or
      leftovers.

Once I did inquire at the junk yard I sometimes visit, and if it was
"rolling" they would only charge $250 to pick it up, otherwise they didn't
      want it.

Can anyone share their experience/wisdom on getting rid of whatever is
      leftover?
