Bob's idea is a good one, but I would also suggest that the glowing
light could be something else, such as a bad ground on the instrument
panel.
My 405 appeared to have a charging problem similar to yours from 1998
on - that is, under heavy load the battery light glows faintly - but
it's proven to be something other than the alternator/battery, as my
battery is always fine even if I have lots of electrical devices on
for a long time. If your car passes a load test with a voltmeter and
has no other symptoms, then it's probably OK, a bad ground or
something not too important.
