Thanks.
I actually found some JB Kwik epoxy down under in New Zealand!!!!
(for any other NZers on the list, it is available at selected Warehouse stores, I found it at Lincoln Road, Henderson).
It is not as heat resistant as the JB-Weld, but probably still good enough for the outside of the transmission. For comparison, Araldite softens above 60°C, JB-Kwik is good up to 150°C, and JB-Weld to 300°C+
The trans was fixed two days ago, went for a two hour drive yesterday, no leaks today, not even a drip :) (well at least no drips from my repair...)

If it is in a non stress area and you merely are stopping the fluid
from leaking, drain it thoroughly (!) take carb cleaner (aerosol can)
and clean the crack. It might be adviseable to chuck a carbide in a
Dremel tool and "V" cut the crack some. Then mix up some JBWeld epoxy
and fill the crack after making sure no oil is wetting the repair
area. Make sure it cures in a warm shop 24 hrs before operation. The
key here being sure you have clean alloy for the epoxy to bond to!
