My 1986 Jetta has a digital mpg meter for both instant/average mpg, and
it's accurate. The thing is, it's based on only 2 factors: engine vacuum
and vehicle speed, both of which are fed to an ecu which must have pretty
good map of data in it. I have all the components from a parts car, but
I don't think it could work in another type of car because the data in the
ecu brain must be specific to the Jetta.
