Watch it kid, you will be telling your age. At one time we set
timing, fuel/air mixture and many other things with a vacuum gauge and a few other
simple tools. The only electronic tool we had was a test light <;-))

My choice would be a simple, cheap vacuum gauge. Had one on my old GMC
Suburban All you need is a vacuum hose from the gauge to the intake system, a
wire to light the bulb in the gauge, and some place to mount it. No
interpretations of fuel flow numbers needed, you just look at the gauge and keep it a the
highest reading you can get, and still maintain your speed.
All that electronics stuff would be a lot more entertaining, but for
maybe $30 bucks and an hours time seems to me to be a better way.
