In my opinion there are cars that needs to be driven and some that
needs to be kept inside or even locked away.
No matter how clean you keep the car it will eventually used up and
will end up being crushed and recycled. You can NOT drive it forever.
Car museums are to preserve those fine historically important
examples for all to see generations after generations. If they were
to be driven daily where would we go to see the actual examples of
rare classic cars of yesterdays.
I have a daily beater (91 Mi16) which was purchased back from the
insurance for $150 after being rear ended (they paid me $4300 for
the car minus salvage buy back $150). Due to my personality it's a
garbage can. My wife won't even ride in that car.
On the other hand, I have a very rare Alfa Romeo model that only 3
of them imported in US and less than 1-2000 sold worldwide. I am
currently collecting new parts for the car and after I restored it
to a brand new condition it will be locked away in the garage only
to be driven to the show and weekends. Of course I am dying to drive
it everyday but if I use it up, eventually there will be only 2 left
in the country. I would say that's more depressing.
