Knock in engine

Hi,
I have a 1994 TD Est 1.9 which has developed a knock from the drives
side engine area which is present when i take up drive. I have been
told by our garage that it is a common problem and is the belt
tentioner. Is this an easy item to change and is there any advice you
can give,
