    Brian,

    Actually the reason there are no new French cars in North America
    can be traced to the inward-looking Boards of Directors of Renault
    SA and PSA Peugeot-Citroën. Renault at least has a good excuse; as
    owners of Nissan, they would be stealing some of their own customers
    if Renault came back over with a full range. Peugeot/Citroën has no
    excuse at all.

    No doubt, if either of these groups had the slightest interest in
    selling cars here, they could easily do so, and that has nothing to
    do with the US Government.

    If all other carmakers can pass US emissions and safety standards,
    surely they can too ;-)

    One French-built car is sold in Canada - the smart fortwo cdi!
