Stefan, We just had a little meeting of Peugeot owners this last weekend
right over in Southwest Seattle. We need to find a bumper support, bumper
and hood for a 505 with maroon paint if you are aware of such a thing in the
Western Washington area. I think you might know of such body parts and hope
that you could let us know of any cache of parts.
    Thanks, Kevin

    Brian,

Actually the reason there are no new French cars in North America
can be traced to the inward-looking Boards of Directors of Renault
SA and PSA Peugeot-Citroën. Renault at least has a good excuse; as
owners of Nissan, they would be stealing some of their own customers
if Renault came back over with a full range. Peugeot/Citroën has no
    excuse at all.

No doubt, if either of these groups had the slightest interest in
selling cars here, they could easily do so, and that has nothing to
    do with the US Government.

If all other carmakers can pass US emissions and safety standards,
    surely they can too ;-)

One French-built car is sold in Canada - the smart fortwo cdi!

    Mike is completely correct.
The US government is not the hurdle- its all in the business plan of
    Renault and Peug/Cit.
Way, way back, in the day, as my kids say, I heard that Citroen
pulled out in part because of the bumper height regulations- the DS
went up and down and it was too exasperating for Citroen to
contemplate compliance with those regs. I have read a few articles
on Peugeot, and my general sense is that they never really had a plan
for success here- they just thought, for a while, that they ought to
be here. I am not sure they ever really wanted to be here. But all
that is in the past, and I am glad that we can enjoy at least some of
    their older products.

On the bright side, new regulations - this would be the government
doing something right- mandate switching to low sulphur diesel
production at domestic refineries this year. With the introduction of
low sulphur d., a significant obstacle to the introduction of the
terrific common rail diesel engines, one of Peugeot's strengths, goes
away. Perhaps they would reconsider the market in light of that, and
of the new demand for innovative small cars. Maybe we'll even be able
to ' get smart ' in the U.S. A., as Mike can in Canada.

When I was in Switzerland a short while ago, I inquired about getting
some 505 parts at a local dealership there. They hardly remembered the
existence of the 505... Apparently it had passed away in ignominy
    there as well.
However, here in Shelton several of these things must have survived
the commoditization of the automobile in recent years. I know of at
least 5 running cars in Mason Co. I even got an inquiry re my
CraigsList post about 505 wheels, that seem to fit Subaru, giving me
some false hope that the tide is turning [LOL]...
