I just returned to Seattle from Arlington, Va. via Lake of the Ozarks in
Missouri in a 1989 505 V6 S 5 speed that I purchased from Anup Pahari in
Virginia. The car performed flawlessly and even got 28 miles to the gallon
in one tank across the Continental Divide. Most of you geography majors
realize that the Continental Divide runs pretty far downhill going West but
it was a glorious feeling to do the calculation and come up with that number
for that engine.
The car never had any temperature issue and suffers from a few cosmetic
blems but otherwise is the best ride I have taken in a long time. The key
word is comfortable. I need a few parts if any of you have them. I require
the left rear door handle, the headlight control stalk, the little sensor
cover that goes in the dash on the passenger side and if anyone has one the
grommet that shields the antenna strange grommet but it is verticle on the
89). These are the only bad or missing parts. I also need a water pump for
my other 505 which is a 1989 V6 GLX 2.8 automatic (new or used is fine as
long as you know it was working). I will have to redo the brightworks of the
trim and it needs paint on the hood and trunk.
I was scared to death somewhere in Virginia or Kentucky when I saw a piece
of rubber that looked suspiciously like a belt pass under the left rear
wheel. Almost simultaneously I experienced an hellacious racket but the
sensors continued to read good temps so I continued to the next exit where,
wonder of wonders there was a full size garage with automotive service (it
must be one of the last ones in America). I popped the hood saw my belt in
place, and walked in side to if someone could look at it. While walking
back out I noticed the source of the din. The windshield on the roof for
the sunroof had come completely free on one side and the thing was flapping
in the 80 mile per hour wind I was generating at one of slower freeway
speeds. This car did a 7 to 8% grade coming up the western side of the
Columbia River gorge for 8 or 9 miles at 80-85. It took a couple of gallons
of gas but the temps might have moved a click and no more.
This is an awesome vehicle! 3,400 miles first time in the car and never a
problem.
