parts of i5 in california are pretty fast flowing. the section from central
california (highway 152) south to LA is the closest thing to an autobahn
i've seen in the US. It's open, and people haul ass on that strech. I've
seen numerous cops not give tickets to people doing 95. The pacific
northwest however is a different story. Unmarked cop cars, and laser radar
make it really hard to speed. It's frustrating too, because there are some
very 'open' autobahn like roads with very little traffic which are far too
patroled in my opinion.
I was in germany a month ago and got a chance to drive around for a few days
which was an incredible & educational experience. watching people's
techniques regarding driveing 'at speed' were really interesting. i saw no
bone head moves, no irratic anything. everyone was smooth, and actually knew
how to hold a line (imagine that!). i guess that's just basic skills when
your able to cruise at 250kph legally.
