I lived in Germany several years. I have always told friends that I
feel safer on an autobahn where drivers can, and do, drive 120+ mph,
than on a north american freeway where the speed limit is 65. The
drivers are well trained, the cars in excellent condition, and every
one pays attention. Everyone in the slow lane knows who is in the
fast lane and how fast they are going. No one will pull into the
fast lane doing 70 when you're coming at 100.
You can be fined for having tires with a lower speed rating than
original equiptment, ie: you can't put R rated tires on a car that
came with H tires. You can also be fined for driving in the fast
lane when not passing and talking on a cell phone while driving.
It's a wonderful place to drive.
