When it suits you, research the Normandie, launched about 1934 about after Queen Mary was launched, about three years before Queen Elizabeth.
Normandie was a generation ahead of both in efficiency of propulsion power plant, utilization of high tensil steel, utilization of interior space, fuel economy, cooling of engine rooms and a fire suppression system that was not used because both its owners and crew and U. S. Navy did not connect the ship to N. Y. City fire hydrants on the pier: It required a union or fitting to connect French threaded system to U. S. threaded hydrants; no one bothered though Normandie was not first French liner to burn at pier.
But the ship was a functioning marvel of her day, engineering wise, esthetically; beautiful beyond compare. And partially completed battleship Jean Bart fled from building basin to North Africa: all systems came on as needed, quite an accomplishment for a large, complex ship under construction.
