There was an article recently in Car & Driver? that delineated the price
difference in European and USA diesel. It has to do with the refining process.
We use one type of refinery in USA and it produces 75% gasoline, 25% diesel.
In europe, they use the other (there are only two types) refining process and
it produces 50% diesel and 50% gasoline. I believe that the article indicates
that we actually buy some of our gasoline from Germany--they produce too much.
So, the more diesels that are purchased/driven in USA, the higher the price
of diesel (supply vs. demand).
