My two pennies, I drive diesel because I like it, I enjoy the sound
they make, and since I live at 1100' elevation, and town is 10 feet
elevation I have a big hill, and so far 4 diesels, 2 trucks, 1 Kubota, 1
pug, soon to have a crawler and a 6.2 diesel in my 1979 Cherokee, diesel
and a standard transmission going at a moderate pace makes for the best
fuel economy traveling up the hill, diesel VS big block is 6 mpg to 12
mpg, the pug gets close to 40 mpg, and is right in the perfect power
range. Also remember that in California diesels don't need smog checks,
and mechanically injected diesels are the last of the simple engines,
easy to work on, parts are cheap, try $2000+ for 8 injectors on my
Duramax, parts only! There is something to be said for simple and
reliable, now my old BMWs... get out the wrenches!
