Re: Getting closer on no-start but still stumped

Hi Marty,
When we bought or 91 wagon I got some receipts that indicated that it had
been in for about $600 of repairs all focused on the hall sensor in the
distributor etc within a month or two prior to being sold.
I found that it would occasionally refuse to start. Eventually I traced it
to a bad connection. I soldered it up and have not had a problem since.
So if you have a soldering iron, follow the lead from the distributor
towards the coil. When you get to a plug, pull the rubber boot off the back
and solder the wire to the connector - from factory they are only crimped
on. (make sure you clean the terminal and wire so you get a good joint).
Also clean the joining side of each connector, I use CRC CO Contact cleaner
then lubricate with CRC 2-26, but I understand that there is a wonder
product called CRC QD which could be even better but which I can't get here
in NZ.
All quite easy to do and won't harm anything and might just solve your
problem!
I will see if I can find a diagnostic for the hall sensor or ignition
module.
