I have to disgree with Pat on this. I think that long ago KYBs were
better than they are today, but IMO nowhere near the quality of
    Peugeot shocks.

I would put KYBs in a class with Monroes and Boges.

Adding oil and a new seal to original front shocks is a piece of
cake. Even if yours aren't reusable I would generally advise getting
some good used originals and resealing them. For stiffer valving use
some from a turbo or sti; for softer ride get them from a gl or
    s. Before about '84 the bushing in the top of the shock tube was
shorter and wore more, as well as sometimes wearing through the
plating on the shock shaft, so if you get used ones get later ones.

If someone has previously installed cartridges, they are not
rebuildable, and may not even be removable if they have rusted into
place. Then you have to replace the whole swivel assembly. In the
winter inserts are a special liability because road splash gets into
the strut tube through the notches in the cap nut if you didn't put
oil or antifreeze in the tube before dropping in the inserts, and
seal the cap notches with silicone. That water can then freeze and
collapse the shock tube and or rust the top of the insert to the housing.

Bottom line: stick with the best passenger car shocks in the
    world--Peugeot OEM.
