Oh yes we did get Skodas..and Tatras, Gogomobiles, Vespa car, Messerschmidt, Panhard, Isetta, DKW and other minor makes along with the major imports of the day. Growing up in Manhattan of the mid 50's there were a great variety of imports, cars and scooters as well. I drove a Messerschmidt once; what a trip, especially reversing. Being a piston port two stroke you simply started the engine in the reverse rotation and put it into 1st. If you were really brave you could get it into 2nd or 3rd and really get it going fast in reverse. And one more thing I almost forgot, I did not have a drivers license. You needed to be 18 in the city to drive; I became 18 in 1960. It didn't stop me or my friends; those were the good old days.

      Hi Dave

Canada hasn't got Skoda since they were rear-engined communist bloc
cars, not badge-engineered VWs! The US never did, so far as I know.

The only European cars we get are: VW, Audi, BMW, Mercedes, smart,
and associated hangers-on like Bentley (VW), Rolls (BMW), Volvo
(Ford),Saab (GM), MINI (BMW), and of course the other exotics that
sell in miniscule quantities (you could put Saab in that category
      actually).

The absent marques are: Peugeot, Citroën, Renault, Alfa-Romeo, FIAT,
Lancia, Opel (though we get a Saturn version of the Astra now, and
one large Saturnised one too), Vauxhall (same as Opel of course),
      Lada (love the Niva)...

This is off the top of my head. The absence of choice over here is
mind-numbing. It's practically Japanese, Korean.... or nothing, for
      fuel-efficient cars.
