Need more help on no-start

I hope i'm getting closer... On my XN6, I checked the wires going to
the coil for voltage. With the ignition on, one read 12.5 volts, one
3.5, the other two nothing. Is that what it should be reading? If
those readings are correct, and on cranking, there is no spark, that
would leave only the coil, correct? Is there a way to check the coil
with a multimeter? And what role does the resistor play?
