The first thing that comes to mind is a "problem" PMA had with some 405
computers. Apparently some replacement computers showed up which
weren't to North American specs, and they made the cars run really
well. This may be a factor in how much the Europeans liked the 405s
when they came out. The owner of the service point in Columbus, Ohio
had that experience, and PMA actually flew someone out to pick it up!
Also, I once tore a 405DL down which was very rough-running. The valve
lift was okay, the compression was great, the injectors were replaced,
along with the plugs, etc. We found the culprit to be alot of
unfinished casting in a couple of exhaust ports in the head. It ran
really smooth after cleaning the ports up. Hope my two cents may help.
Back in the 504 days one dealer had a rattling exhaust, and found the
problem to be several nuts and bolts thrown into the exhaust system
    during assembly. Take care.

why we can't change the valve timing, the conversation ends.
