The 2 biggest performance killers I have seen with the XU9J2
are plugged cat converters and worn cam lobes

    Subject: XU9J2 Performance Variation

    Hello,
I have two '91 405S with the autobox. The performance difference is staggering. Both engines have excellent compression and have been maintained well (since I bought them).
One person has told me that he's seen similar performance differences among many makes, that many times it's in the valve timing. When I ask why we can't change the valve timing, the conversation ends.
    Any comments or other observations?
    Thanks.
    Bill
