    Change the lubricant in the trans.

    It probably has the recommended 10-40 engine oil
    Fill it with 75-90 100% Synthetic Gear Oil

    I have used this in my TD since it started whining
    after towing a 405 for 1500 mi.

    That was 8 yr ago and it is still quiet.

    Synthetic gear oil shifts at least as well as the 10-40 engine
    oil at all temperatures down to - 40F

    Is a manual transmission on a 505 supposed to whine like an old powerglide
    when the Peugeot is in neutral with the clutch out? Mine does.
